Whale Coast Walk is a quiet first-person ramble along a sunlit clifftop trail — grassy sea cliffs, a sandy cove far below, a white lighthouse on the western point, and humpback whales patrolling the blue water offshore. There is no combat and no clock to beat: just you, the sea breeze, and fourteen kilometres of coastline compressed into one perfect afternoon.
Follow the worn dirt track west through five lookouts — the Trailhead Sign, Cove Lookout, Whale Point, Shepherd's Rise and Lighthouse Green — each marked with a golden beacon and its own place to rest. Step off the path whenever you like: the whole land side is open to roam, from the beach ramp at the cove to the rolling inland hills at the foot of the mountains.
The heart of the game is whale watching. Three humpbacks cruise just beyond the headlands, surfacing to breathe, fluking up to dive, and — if you're patient — throwing their whole bodies into a breach. Raise your binoculars (hold the right mouse button), hold them steady on a whale, and log the sighting. Gulls wheel overhead, waves break on the rocks below, and a warm acoustic soundtrack carries you along.
Every walk ends the same way: all five lookouts collected, whales logged, and a summary card that tells you how long you lingered. Then keep wandering — the coast doesn't close.
