Gothic chess against the Shade — a duel of minds in the dark, where every piece carries an aura.
A duel of minds in the dark. Sit down at a board that should not exist — a floating slab of obsidian and ivory marble, breathing softly above a void of violet mist, candles guttering at the edge of sight. Across from you waits the Shade: patient, ancient, and very good at chess.
Real chess, haunted. Every law of the old game holds — castling, en passant, promotion, check, checkmate and stalemate. Click a piece and its aura blooms, violet runes marking every square it may claim. Moves levitate across the board; captures are devoured by a vortex of shadow. Three strengths of malice await, from a drowsy Novice to the full Shade, and two mortals can share the board in hotseat duels.
Listen to the dark. The Shade whispers as it plans. A check tolls a deep bell; a fallen king erupts in cold fire. Undo rewrites fate, the move scroll remembers everything, and the verdict screen tells you whether the light endured — or the board claimed one more soul.
Stake your king. The candles are already watching.
